Masoumeh Sharafimasooleh - Student

Masoumeh Sharafimasooleh is a holder of Bachelor's and Master's degree in Materials-Ceramics Engineering from Azad University in Iran. Her Master's degree focused on the study of organoclays and their applications in removal of organic compounds from wastewaters and for oil spill cleanup applications. During her studies in Iran, she also contributed to other research projects investigating the efficiency of continuous systems for organic removal from wastewaters and preparation of nanofiber/organoclay nanocomposites for applications in water and wastewater treatment.

Thesis subject: Impact of Ion Exchange Processes on Distribution Water Quality

 

Research

Masoumeh’s doctoral research at Dalhousie University is centered on investigating potential impacts of the use of ion exchange in drinking water treatment on secondary disinfection efficacy and distribution system water quality.  Bench-scale annular reactors (ARs) are being used to evaluate the efficacy of chlorine and UV disinfection processes for disinfection of water that has been treated with anionic exchange resins (AERs) for natural organic matter (NOM) removal. Her research at Dalhousie is being co-supervised by Dr. Margaret Walsh through the NSERC CREATE STEWARD program and Dr. Jennie Rand (Foulis Chair, Ivan Curry School of Engineering, Acadia University).
